FIRE-FIGHTING SYSTEMS
Fixed Water Based Fire-Fighting System for Local Application. The DESMI Fixed Fire-Fighting system is developed to suppress or extinguish fire at an early stage before releasing the total flooding system as required by SOLAS Ch.II-2/Reg.10.5.6.1&2 for ships constructed on and after 1st July 2002. The FineFogTM water mist has a highly suffocating and cooling effect and with the DESMI FineFogTM you can therefore protect the inflammable objects in accordance with SOLAS requirements (e.g. main engine top, auxiliary engine top, heated fuel oil purifier, oil fired boiler front, incinerator burner, oil fired inert gas generator etc) without having to shut down engine, evacuate personnel or seal off space. The FineFogTM is designed and approved fully meet the requirements of SOLAS Ch.II-2/Reg.10.5.6, IMO MSC/Circ.913, MSC/Circ.1082, MSC/Circ.1165, MSC.1/Circ.1276 and MSC.1/Circ.1387 and is approved by the major classifications and recognized authorities. The fire suppression or extinguishing function is based on the water mist M5 spray head which has proved its efficiency through many full-scale tests and real-world fires, complemented by DESMI design for easy and safe operation during the entire lifetime of the product.

FIREFIGHTING SYSTEMS
FIREFIGHTING I SYSTEM One or two fire pumps installed in the engine room. Driven by the main engines with a step-up gear or using electric motors. The pump(s) provides water for two fire monitors and an external water spray system installed for self protection. Optional foam system can be included FIREFIGHTING II AND III SYSTEM Minimum two fire pumps driven by the main engines with a step-up gear or using electric motors. Depending on class society two, three or four monitors are required for long range fire fighting. Optional external water spray system can be installed to obtain FiFi II+I class notification. NON CLASSED FIREFIGHTING SYSTEMS External FiFi systems with capacity less than FiFi I have no formal classification. Fire pumps are driven by dedicated diesel engines. PTO gearboxes or electric motor. A minimum of 300 m3/h unit capacity is recommended to achieve efficient firefighting FIREBOAT DEDICATED SYSTEMS Fireboat systems are tailor made systems which are developed in cooperation with fire departments and naval architects.

FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEMS DIFFS / NUI
MATRE Deck Integrated Fire Fighting System (DIFFS) Matre Deck Integrated Fire Fighting System (DIFFS) - specially developed to extinguish fire on helidecks. An activated DIFFS system will extinguish a major spill fire on the helideck within 15 seconds. Although - tests have shown that such fires in most cases are extinguished in less than 10 seconds. Matre DIFFS can be automatically activated by detection system or manually by release panels (push buttons). Rescue personnel can safely perform rescue operations on the helideck even when the system is fully activated. Matre DIFFS can be used on many various installations and can be customized according to customer specifications. Today Matre DIFFS is used on various offshore installations as well as yachts and roof top helidecks. DIFFS consist of foam mixing skid and Matre pop-up nozzles. Matre DIFFS is designed in compliance to all applicable standards and regulations (CAP437, NORMAM27, ICAO, NMD, NORSOK). Matre Systems for Normally Unattended Installations: Normally Unattended Installations (NUI) can now be equipped with Matre’s Deck Integrated Fire Fighting System (DIFFS) or Ring Main System (RMS). Today NUI present their own problems when helicopters have to land on installations with only rudimentary firefighting equipment. This is set to change as the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) now demands better safety for helicopter movements on NUI. CAP 437, Standard for Offshore Helicopter Landing Areas, states the following in chapter 5.3 appendix D that: “DIFFS on NUIs should be integrated with platform safety systems such that pop-up nozzles are activated automatically in the event of an impact of a helicopter on the helideck where a Post-Crash Fire (PCF) is a foreseeable outcome. The overall design of a DIFFS should incorporate a method of fire detection and be configured to avoid spurious activation. It should be capable of manual over-ride by the HLO and from the mother installation or from an onshore control room. Similar to a DIFFS provided for a Permanently Attended Installation (PAI) or vessel, a DIFFS provided on an NUI needs to consider the eventuality that one or more nozzles may be rendered ineffective by, for example, a crash. The basic performance assumptions stated in paragraphs 2.10 to 2.12 should also apply for a DIFFS located on an NUI.”

FIRE EXTINGUISHING INSTALLATIONS, INERGEN
With Passenger & long distance cargo vessels – be they cruise ships, ferries, or riverboats – the top priority is the safety of passengers and crew on board. Ultra Fog’s reliable, fast acting extinguishing system can be integrated with on board monitoring and detection systems to maximise the ability to detect and control a fire incident on board. Ultra Fog uses a reduced quantity of water, and has an unlimited discharge time, which enables the vessel to cope effectively even with the most serious fire event. Ultra Fog systems use water, so are non-toxic and can be safely discharged without the need to evacuate passengers and crew. The small quantity of water used in the Ultra Fog system, in areas such as Ro-Ro decks, will not compromise stability of the vessel while minimising clean up and downtime. From a shipbuilder’s perspective Ultra Fog has recently tested and gained IMO and Class approval for a new high performing nozzle, which can protect up to 48m2 with a single nozzle. This wider spacing passes on a huge saving to the customer in reducing the cost and time required for system installation. As a turnkey solution, Ultra Fog has emerged as ‘Best in Class’ in terms of price, quality and water/power consumption requirements.
